The main drag of a city of 13 million. Crossing this avenue is an adventure every time. Six lanes each way on the main thoroughfare, and three lanes tagged onto the side of each direction. Its Mad!
The big erection in the middle, is the Obelisk, it comemorates a number of important milestones in the history of Argentina. One of my workplaces is just along the avenue at the bottom left.
So, obviously, I'm in Capital Federal, as the locals call it, and have just finished by second full week of being a Profesora Inglesa. The English teacher to business people in four different locations.
It's been mad, crazy and cool. I hit the ground running, and am just starting to catch my breath.
I've mislaid my wi-fi connection on my notebook, but am hoping one of my clients, Rodolfo the IT guy, will come to my aid and re-do the thingy, so i can load pics of Rosario and La Banda, two places on my way here.
Wow, what a roller-coaster ride! So sorry to hear about the Starbucks incident, but I guess that's what you get in a big city...never trust those elderly, eh --- they're dodgy as! Awesome that you found a job, though! Finally those years of hard training are paying off...Have you spotted the cartoneros yet, or are they in a different city?
ReplyDeleteHola mi hermana! Yes, you have to keep your eyes peeled for those sneaky oldies, especially with the fake auburn hair. Fortunately that has seeped out of my short-term memory... Tamoxifen is doing wonders for that....and am settling into the job and my cute students. They are so cool, i've stopped running frantically, making sure i can explain what the future perfect of.....is, and am starting to relax into it more now. I don't need my map so much nowdays either, and the Subway has resumed work after a 10day strike and it now only takes about 25mins to get home instead of and hour and a half, standing! i found the Eloise Cartoneros in La Boca, but they were closed (it was Sunday) so have made it my mission to go there this Wednesday with my note in Spanish and see if they want me as a volunteer. Fingers crossed. Have you been ad-hoc-ing?
